Assessment of Serum Podocalyxin as a Biomarker for Diabetic Nephropathy in Type 2 Diabetes patients in Duhok City

Podocalyxin, a glycosylated cell surface sialomucin of the CD34 family, is kidney podocyte membrane negatively charged protein and essential constituent glomerular basement charge barrier. Additionally, it has crucial role in maintaining filtration barrier permeability. It been considered that one most important factors diabetic nephropathy injury. In natural history macrovascular complications, podocytes have shown to be structurally functionally affected. The current study aimed determine serum podocalyxin levels patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus analyse its relation rate albuminuria. This cross-sectional was performed at center Azadi Teaching Hospital Golan Dohuk city from September 2021 March 2022. Consecutive sampling applied select 200 subjects (case group) T2DM aged 30-65 years 93 healthy (control group). BMI, eGFR, albuminuria, HbA1c, were measured for all subjects. Serum significantly higher case group (P =0.019). There no significant difference between groups (normoalbuminuria, microalbuminuria, macroalbuminuria). A negative correlation eGFR found both control =0.010 r =-0.267, P =0.030 =-0.154, respectively). Although S.PCX had may not as biomarker.
